1. Introduction and Acceptance

DistrictUni provides a campus-focused social platform that includes a Buy & Sell section where eligible university students may post classified advertisements and connect with other students interested in buying or selling personal items.

These Terms of Service and Guidelines govern your use of the Buy & Sell features only. They supplement DistrictUni's general Terms of Use. In the event of a conflict relating specifically to marketplace activity, these Buy & Sell terms control for that activity.

2. Platform-Only Role of DistrictUni

DistrictUni is a listing and connection platform only. DistrictUni enables students to publish classified ads and communicate about potential purchases or sales. DistrictUni does not:

• own, possess, warehouse, ship, or transfer any listed items;
• sell goods or services as a merchant or retailer;
• inspect, test, authenticate, appraise, or verify the condition, authenticity, legality, or safety of any item;
• endorse, recommend, guarantee, or warrant any seller, buyer, listing, price, or transaction;
• process payments, hold escrow funds, provide payment protection, or act as a payment intermediary for Buy & Sell deals;
• act as an agent, broker, auctioneer, insurer, or fiduciary for any user in connection with a marketplace transaction.

Any agreement to buy or sell is solely between the buyer and the seller. DistrictUni is not a party to that agreement and has no obligation to mediate, resolve, refund, or enforce private deals between users.

3. Eligibility and Student Use

• Buy & Sell is intended for eligible DistrictUni users who are current university students (or otherwise authorized under DistrictUni account rules).
• You must use your own account and provide accurate listing information.
• You may not use Buy & Sell for commercial storefronts, drop-shipping businesses, multi-level marketing, or large-scale resale operations without DistrictUni's prior written permission.
• You are responsible for complying with your university's codes of conduct, residence rules, and all applicable local, provincial/state, and federal laws.

4. Limitation of Liability and Disclaimers

4.1 No responsibility for transactions

To the maximum extent permitted by law, DistrictUni, its affiliates, officers, employees, contractors, and partners disclaim all liability arising out of or related to Buy & Sell activity, including without limitation:

• any purchase, sale, exchange, gift, or attempted transaction between users;
• payment disputes, non-payment, chargebacks, stolen funds, or failed transfers;
• fraudulent listings, fake identities, scam messages, or misrepresentation of items;
• item quality, defects, latent damage, counterfeit goods, incomplete accessories, or "not as described" claims;
• injury, loss, theft, property damage, or personal safety incidents occurring before, during, or after an in-person meetup;
• loss of data, opportunity, profits, or goodwill connected to marketplace use.

4.2 "As is" platform

The Buy & Sell section is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy of listings, or uninterrupted availability.

4.3 User assumption of risk

You assume all risks associated with meeting other users, inspecting items, transferring money, and completing transactions. If you are uncomfortable with any interaction, stop communicating and do not proceed with the meetup or payment.

5. Safety Guidelines for Buyers and Sellers

Your personal safety and financial security come first. DistrictUni strongly recommends the following practices for every Buy & Sell interaction.

5.1 Safe meeting places

• Meet only in safe, public, well-lit locations on campus (for example: student centre lobbies, campus security-approved exchange zones, busy cafes, or library entrances during open hours).
• Avoid private residences, parked cars, isolated parking structures, or off-campus locations when you do not know the other party.
• Prefer daytime meetings and tell a trusted friend where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Consider campus security accompaniment options if available at your university.
• Do not feel pressured to complete a deal. You may cancel a meetup at any time.

5.2 Inspect before you pay

• Buyers should thoroughly inspect the item in person before transferring money.
• Power on electronics, test key functions, check for damage, and confirm included accessories match the listing.
• For textbooks, verify edition, condition, and annotations. For furniture or appliances, check for structural issues and cleanliness.
• Do not accept "inspect later" arrangements for high-value items.
• Sellers should allow a reasonable in-person inspection and answer questions honestly.

5.3 Safe payment practices

• Prefer cash exchanged in person at the meetup for lower-risk campus transactions, or another method you personally trust and understand.
• Never send payment to strangers in advance for items you have not inspected, especially via irreversible methods or gift-card schemes.
• Be cautious of overpayment scams, fake payment screenshots, "shipping agent" stories, and requests to move the conversation off-platform suddenly.
• Do not share banking passwords, one-time codes, student ID credentials, or remote-access to your devices.
• Keep records of listing screenshots, chat messages, and agreed price for your own reference.
• DistrictUni does not provide buyer/seller payment protection or purchase insurance.

5.4 Communication and privacy

• Keep initial conversations within DistrictUni where possible.
• Share only the minimum personal information needed to complete a safe campus meetup.
• Report harassment, threats, spam, or suspicious behaviour immediately.

6. Listing Standards and Honest Advertising

• Listings must accurately describe the item, condition, price, and any known defects.
• Photos should depict the actual item being sold. Do not use stock images to mislead buyers.
• Do not bait-and-switch (advertise one item and deliver another).
• Duplicate spam listings, keyword stuffing, and repetitive posts designed to flood the feed are not allowed.
• Remove or mark listings as sold promptly after the item is no longer available.
• Respect intellectual property and do not list stolen property.

7. Prohibited Items and Content Moderation

Users may not list, request, promote, or facilitate illegal, unsafe, or otherwise prohibited goods or services. Prohibited categories include, without limitation:

• weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, and related accessories;
• illegal drugs, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and prescription medications;
• alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, or age-restricted items where prohibited by law or campus policy;
• stolen goods, counterfeit products, and pirated digital media or software keys;
• hazardous materials, recalled products known to be unsafe, and items banned by your university;
• animals (live animals) where not permitted, or animal parts prohibited by law;
• adult sexual services, escort services, and sexually explicit content;
• financial instruments used for fraud (fake IDs, stolen cards, account credentials);
• tickets or housing arrangements that violate university or legal rules;
• any item or service that violates applicable law, university policy, or DistrictUni community standards.

DistrictUni reserves the right, at its sole discretion and without prior notice, to remove listings, restrict features, suspend accounts, or take other enforcement action for content that is non-compliant, misleading, harmful, spammy, or otherwise inconsistent with these Guidelines. DistrictUni has no obligation to monitor all listings but may review reported content and act as it deems appropriate.

8. Payments, Disputes, and Fraud

• All payment terms are arranged privately between buyer and seller.
• DistrictUni is not responsible for resolving payment disputes, refunds, or chargebacks.
• If you believe you have encountered fraud, stop communication, preserve evidence, report the listing/user in-app (or via support), and contact campus security or local authorities when appropriate.
• Users who engage in scams, impersonation, or repeated policy violations may lose access to Buy & Sell and/or DistrictUni.

9. Reporting, Enforcement, and Account Action

• Report suspicious listings, unsafe behaviour, prohibited items, or abusive messages through DistrictUni's reporting tools or support channels.
• DistrictUni may investigate reports and take action including content removal, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination.
• Enforcement decisions are intended to protect the student community and platform integrity; DistrictUni is not obligated to provide a detailed explanation in every case.
• Repeated or severe violations may result in referral to university administrators or law enforcement where legally required or appropriate.

10. Changes to These Terms

DistrictUni may update these Buy & Sell Terms of Service and Guidelines from time to time. Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Buy & Sell after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
